Popular events like the football World Cup and otherinternational sporting occasions are essential in easinginternational tensions and releasing patriotic emotions in asafe way.Every four years, the whole world stops to watchinternational sporting events such as the Olympics and theFootball World Cup in which athletes show their bestperformance to make their country proud of them. These  sporting occasions have proved to be helpful in easinginternational tensions in difficult times when powerfulleaders were trying to control the world’s economy andother governments were fighting over land.oThe OlympicGames are one of the best examples which prove howsporting events can bring nations together, at leasttemporarily. From ancient History, when Greeks andRomans would interrupt battles to participate in thegames, to the more recent international disputes, whenathletes from Palestine and Israel would forget theirdifferences, compete pacifically and even embrace eachother after an event. Moreover, these popular events havecalled the world’s attention to the terrible consequences of wars; thus some leaders have tried to accept agreementsto end their dispute and live peacefully.tSimilarly, international sporting events show benefits in somedeveloping countries which live in a daily internal civil war.For example, Brazil has a high rate of unemployment, lackof education, hunger, crime, poverty and corruption whichleads to an immense embarrassment of being Brazilianand a low self-esteem. However, when the Football WorldCup starts, the Brazilian squad, which is considered thebest team in the world, provokes an amazing feeling of pride in their country. Most people seem to forget all theirproblems and even the criminal activity decreases. Theypaint roads with the national colors, use wear the Brazilianteam shirt and buy national flags. Moreover, thecompetition brings families and neighbors together andeven rival gangs watch the games and celebratepeacefully.pIn conclusion, popular sporting events play animportant role in decreasing international tensions andliberating patriotic feelings as History has shown.2. As computers are being used more and more in  education, there will be soon no role for teachers in theclassroom. There is no doubt that education and the learning processhas changed since the introduction of computers: Thesearch for information has become easier and amusing, and connectivity has expedited the data availability. Though experts systems have made computers moreintelligent, they have not yet become a substitute of thehuman interaction in the learning process. In my opinion;what can be expected, is a change of the teachers’ rolebut not their disappearance from the classroom.bNobodycan argue that the acquisition of knowledge is more funand easier with computers. The more activity of touchingand exploring this device constitutes an enjoyable task fora kid. This, accompanied with the relaxing attitude andsoftware interactivity, usually conduce to a better graspingof new knowledge. At a higher educational level; theavailability of digital books, simulator and other academicmaterials, provide the student with an ever accessiblesource of information, that otherwise would not be athand.hBut, besides the increasing complexity and behaviorof intelligent software, which is usually embedded in theacademic digital material, the need of human interactionin the learning process will always be present, at least inthe foreseeable future. There is the necessity for a humanbeing to be able to determine what the specifics needs of each individual are. The expertise of a teacher in how toexplain and adapt complex concepts to differentindividuals can hardly be mimicked by a computer, nomatter how sophisticated its software is.mAs computers arebecoming a common tool for teaching, teachers should bemore aware of their role as guides in the acquisition of knowledge rather than transmitters of facts. They have to  be open – minded to the changes that are taking places, keep updated and serve as a problem solvers in thelearning process, thus allowing students to discover thefact for themselves.fTo summarize, in my personal view, teachers play and will play an important role in theclassroom, especially at the primary level. No matter howcomplex computers become, there will be no replacementfor the human interaction, but in the way how thisinteraction takes place.
