Goals and Happenings MSAR is off and running. In 2018 first quarter, we rescued 100 dogs, 15 cats and two rabbits, that's 117 animals in just three months! 39%   of those animals were Special Needs cases. Meaning they required significant medical care, emotional rehabilitation or both by our loving volunteers. Our adoption outcomes have been outstanding as 79 of those 117 animals found their forever homes or were pending adoption during first quarter! The remaining animals are still mending and in care awaiting a family to love. We pride ourselves in pairing pets and people for successful relationships that are life-long. In 2017 our overall adoption return rate was only 4%. We are proud that we promote pet retention in loving homes and have behavioral staff available to support and promote the tools needed to secure help, including a Pet Behavior Library on our website for pet owners to enrich themselves with supportive literature. Keeping people and pets together is so important to us. Our expenses increased substantially due to special needs animals, we are always in need and welcome support. Vetting costs for first quarter were approximately $15,251.66. Some of these special animals are still currently mending. Keep an eye on our Facebook page as we will be posting an album that will provide information about each special case animal. Our rescue van has been a lifesaver! Approximately 4074 miles have been calculated for our first quarter use. Busy transporting animals to and from medical appointments. Pickup from transports and gather donations. Yet there are times we even needed to use a volunteer's vehicle too. As we grow, a second van may be needed and or a larger transport vehicle for our big transports. Our biggest animal transport consisted of over 20 animals! Becoming a sustaining donor is a wonderful way to give all year and support a great cause, no amount is too small. If you wish to donate or become a sustaining donor please, visit our website and click on the donate tab, there will be an option for you to give once or monthly reoccurring. He is a wonderful asset to MSAR and gifts wisdom and heart-warming  dedication to the entire organization. You will often see Gerald at our public events raising awareness and fiercely raising funds. We are beyond blessed to have such an honorable gentleman that is filled with merit and integrity serve on our Board.  As we continue to grow so do our needs...Do you have a little space in your heart and home? Do you like pet sitting? We are searching for more Foster Providers to care for the ongoing volumes of animals that are in need on a daily basis. Our rescue provides all supplies while you provide the care, compassion and love. Mending Spirits needs your help. We are expanding and flourishing quickly. We have outgrown many of our shared spaces used to store our rescue supplies. We are looking for and in desperate need of a small pet friendly space where we can store supplies, perform animal intakes and perhaps have open house events. Please let us know if you have or know of such a place. 1 st  Quarter Events In January our volunteers participated in the New Ulm Thrivent’s Non-Profit Fair. We spoke with quite a few people attending the fair and received a $25 “thank you” check from Thrivent.  February was a busy month for MSAR. Every Saturday in February and into March, not only were our volunteers at Herberger’s, some of our foster animals were too. It was great time s elling Herberger’s Spring Community Day Sale Booklets selling 385 of them for a total of $1925. MSAR will be receiving $533.45 from the percentage of sales by the store. Tip night was held at the Pizza Ranch in New Ulm. Our volunteers cleared and cleaned the tables plus answered questions about our rescue. Pizza Ranch customers kindly donated $180 in tips. Pizza Ranch donated 10% of sales. Pizza Ranch is a wonderful asset in New Ulm & we love their generosity in giving back to the community. Our Be Mine Meet & Greet was held at Pet Expo. Our volunteers sold gift bags for cats & dogs & raised $260. Thank you to all of you that purchased a gift bag we hope your furry friend(s) loved the surprises inside.  Also in February a Fundraiser Fiesta was held at Taco Johns in New Ulm. Thank you to the generous customers who donated $90.27 in tips and to Taco John’s in New Ulm for donating $115 as a percentage of sales. March MSAR was at The Herbergers’ Kid’s Fest with one of our Foster bunnies. We were delighted to be able to have Clover Chloe there with some of our volunteers. The children loved petting the bunny and asking questions about her as well as Mending Spirits. Thank you to Herberger’s  for providing candy bars to sell for a donation to the rescue. We collected $40 at this event & enjoyed lots of smiles.   Thank you to all our partners as we greatly appreciate you and everything you do to help MSAR!
