At least 168 people have been killed inAndhra Pradesh and neighboring Karnataka due to floods resulting from heavy rains since Wednesday (1stOct).Andhra Pradesh is facing the worst ever floods in its 60 years, as 60 per cent of Kurnool district was submerged onFriday leaving thousands homeless and stranded without food and water. Nearly two lakh people have beenevacuated to relief camps in the worst-affected districts of Kurnool, Mahabubnagar and Krishna district.Media News The Hindu Bussinessline Rains in the last 48 hours have wreaked havoc inundating over 30 villages and the temple town of Mantralayamand Kurnool city, cutting off national highway, making it inaccessible. Similar is the situation within the drought-prone district of Mahbubnagar. The Government anticipates more flooding in Krishna district and Vijayawada inparticular. Gulf Times Bangalore: More than 130 people have died and hundreds are being evacuated due toheavy rains which have lashed the southern states of Karnataka and Andhra Pradeshover the past three days, officials said.  Hundreds of people trapped by the floodwaters were stranded on rooftops waiting to berescued. “Over 40,000 houses have been damaged,” an official at the Karnataka revenueministry said. The water level of rivers Budhabalanga, Baitarani and Brahmani is inchingtowards the danger mark at a few places. Telegraph IndiaOfficials said a depression over the Bay of Bengal had emptied 860mm of rainwater intoKurnool and Mahboobnagar districts, causing the Tungabhadra and Krishna inflows to smasha 100-year-old record. Districts reporting a 60 per cent deficit monsoon were now surplus by100 per cent.  Hundreds of devotees were stranded in the southern pilgrim town of Mantralayam, wherethe pontiff of the Raghavendra Swamy Mutt, Suchistrananda Theertha, was evacuated bya government helicopter after floodwaters entered the shrine. The starving pilgrims spent a sleepless night on rooftops, at bus stands and guesthouses.  Preliminary first hand report from volunteersSeva Bharati volunteers have already started launching relief camps in affected towns of AP, Karnataka andOrissa.
