Daniel Whitwham Web Coding Terminology Authoring  –   Authoring is referring to the different assets that you can use like images, video’s and text, you can use these assets to create different multimedia things such as if you had a collection of images, then you grouped them together in some form of way and made it into different things such as a slideshow. The internet’s definition of authoring is “ the creation of programs and databases for computer applications such as computer- assisted learning or multimedia products” . This basically means that authoring is made for creating different applications and programs such as slideshows with the use of a range of assets. Furthermore, authoring refers to how the final product of the website is saved and formatted, this is called HTML coding. Sometimes authoring can mean a programme like Dreamweaver, this is basically let’s its users design, code and manage websites, as well as mobile content. Finally, the definition of HTML coding is that “HTML  otherwise known as Hypertext Mark-up Language is the set of mark-up symbols or codes inserted in a file intended for display on a World Wide Web browser page. The mark- up tells the Web browser how to display a Web page's words and images for the user”. This is useful because it keeps all the images and text in one place so it is easy to find. Sites  –  A website has a lot of different assets grouped together in one or multiple pages such as text, images, video’s, hyperlinks, animation and more. Creating a website can take a lot of time bec ause of the amount of coding that is required and remembering all the different codes can take a long time to master completely. The internet’s definition of a website is “ that it   is a collection of related web pages, including multimedia content, typically identified with a common domain name, and published on at least one web server. A website may be accessible via a public Internet Protocol (IP) network, such as the Internet, or a private local area network (LAN), by referencing a uniform resource locator (URL) that identifies the site”. This basically means that to create a website it takes a lot of coding and you must know about different networks like an IP network. Every website can be seen from any country as long as you are connected to the internet , the only way you wouldn’t be able to see a specific website is if It was banned from a country. Uploading  –  The term uploading generally means copying data from one source to another, in other words you could be browsing the internet and come across a film that you want to download and to do this you would have to click download, then wait for it to download and finally save it someone on your computer. The internet’s definition of uploading is that “ in computer networks, to upload is to send data to a remote system such as a server or another client so that the remote system can store a copy”. This basically means that depending on your computer network it will send what you have uploaded into a server that only you will be able to access. Furthermore, when you download something it could be very fast or very slow depending on how fast your internet speed is and how big the file is. File Transfer Protocol  –  The File Transfer Protocol is used to transfer computer files between a client and server on a computer network. For example, if you wanted to create some web pages on your computer to add to a website, you could use the file transfer protocol because you can then easily upload them to the hosting server without needing to access any extra pages online. To do all of this you must log in to the hosted server through the File Transfer Protocol client programme, when you  Daniel Whitwham do this it will ask you for a username, password and host, which is basically the website of the company which has your host or server. Web Page Web Page Construction  –  Every website that is created is created in a format called HTML. HTML stands for Hypertext Mark-up Language which is used for text files which will achieve font, colour, graphic and hyperlink effects on world wide web pages. The internet's definition of web page construction is that web designers build webpages using HTML tags that define the content and metadata of each page. The layout and appearance of the elements within a webpage are typically defined using CSS, or cascading style sheets . This basically means that when a webpage is created the HTML tags change the metadata of that page.   Text, Fonts and Colour - Text, fonts and colour all work the same when creating a website because to use them you have to use the same type of coding which is HTML, for example when adding text there are different commands that you can use such as if you wanted a title, the command would be <title> then the text that you wanted</title>, then you can also change the font styles such as with the use of bold, italic and underlining the font, for example to make the text bold the command is <P> <B> bold text </B>, this can make any website look more interesting to look at. Furthermore, you can change the title size to how big or small you want, in the coding just change the number to the size you want it, for example <h1> heading size 1 </h1>. Finally, at the end of these different commands don’t forget to add </body or </html> depending on the command that you have added. To add colour to the text you have created it can be a bit trickier however once you get the hang of it, you should be okay, for example if you wanted to make some text red the code command is rgb(255, 0, 0), however this is a very specific shade of red, if you just wanted the standard colour red the code command is #ff0000. If you are struggling to find out what each colour is a good website you could look at is https://www.w3schools.com/colors/colors_picker.asp this allows you to select the specific colour that you want. Images and tables  –  To add images into a website that is coded you must be careful what images you use because the file type might not be suited towards that particular image you want to use. The coding that you want to use to add an image is <img src=”image” alt = image>, this is basically how the HTML images are defined with <img> tags. The <img> tag is empty it contains attributes only and does not have a closing tag, also the src attribute specifies the URL of the image, this can usually work with any image that you want to use. Tables are set out in rows and each table row id defined with the <tr> tag. A table header is defined with the <th> tag. By default, the table headings are bold and centered. A table data or cell is defined with the <td> tag. Finally, images and tables basically has the same sort of concept towards placing it on the website page and how it works. Hyperlinks  –  Hyperlinks otherwise known as HTML links in web coding offer the same thing in the way of how it works such as when you click on a link it will take you to another document and when you move the mouse over the link, the mouse arrow will turn into a little hand which basically means that if you left click it, you will be sent to another page through a hyperlink. The web coding to do this is <a href = “url” =  > link text </a>. You can get the text from the websites or page URL which is often found in the top menu bar.  Daniel Whitwham Language and Terminology  –  The language and terminology that is mainly used in web coding is mark-up language. Mark-up language is a document that includes a range of different annotations in the form of text, the internet’s definition of this is  that “ a markup language is a system for annotating a document in a way that is syntactically distinguishable from the text. The idea and terminology evolved from the marking up of paper manuscripts, i.e., the revision instructions by editors, traditionally written with a blue pencil on authors' manuscripts ”. This basically means that with the use of mark-up language it allows you to show different annotations in text which is different from other languages and terminology’s . Metadata  –  Metadata otherwise known as HTML meta tags is data or information that provides metadata about the HTML documents. Metadata will not be displayed on pages but will be machine parsable. Meta elements are typically used to specify page descriptions, keywords, author of the document, last modified and other metadata. HTML 5 introduced a method to let web designers take control over the viewpoint through the <meta> tag. To use metadata’s coding, you have to us this sort of terminology which is <meta charset =” UTF  - 8”>, however their other metadata’s out there that you could use. HTML What is HTML  –  HTML otherwise known as Hyper Text Mark-up language is used for all sorts of coding when you are creating a website for example HTML describes the structure of web pages using markup and the HTML elements are the building blocks of HTML pages, furthermore HTML elements are represented by tags and the tag label pieces show the content such as headings, paragraphs and tables, browsers do not display the HTML tags, but use them to render the content on the page. XHTML is mainly used for websites now over HTML as it makes it easier to use rather than HTML. XHTML documents can be supplemented with other forms of markup, MathML which means Math Markup Language and SVG which means Scalable Vector Graphics or your own Markup variants, thanks to the use of namespaces. The disadvantages of using XHTML are that there are hardly any browsers that offer benefits when receiving and processing XHTML documents. The most frequently used browser is Microsoft Internet Explorer and this doesn’t even support XHTML.  An advantage of using HTML is that the frames allow the user to view multiple documents within a single web page. It is possible to load pages from different servers in a single frameset. The disadvantage is that the older browsers don’t support these types of frames which can be addressed using the <noframe> tag. What is XHTML  –  XHTML is like HTML however XHTML elements must be properly tested, always be closed, be in lowercase and must have one root element. Cascading Style Sheets What are cascading sheets  –  Cascading sheets describes the HTML elements that are displayed on the screen paper or in other media however CSS saves a lot of work and can be controlled by the layout of multiple web pages all at once. The reason you should chose CSS over anything else is because CSS is used to define styles for your web page, including the design, layout and variations in display for different devices and screen sizes. Cascading style sheets are designed to enable the separation of the presentation and content, including aspects such as the layout, colors and fonts. This separation can  Daniel Whitwham improve content accessibility, provide more flexibility and control in the specification of presentation characteristics, enable multiple HTML pages to share formatting by specifying the relevant Cascading Style Sheets in a separate CSS file, and reduce complexity and repetition in the structural content.
