In October 2009, theCodesAmendment Subcommittee (CAS)of the DPS State Codes and Standards Committeeannouncedits intent to review and consider proposals amending the 2009 IECC to comply with Public Act 09-192. The state had previously updated its energy code through the 2009 Amendment which adopted the 2006 IECC on August 1, 2009. At the request of the mayor of Fort Wayne, the meetingwas scheduled to cover four issues that have been subject to comments and questionsfrom the building community:1)Whether to exempt all existing buildings from compliance with the EnergyCode regardless of any alterations, additions or changes of occupancy that mayaffect these existing buildings;2)Whether to exempt all buildings built before 1978 from compliance withthe Energy Code regardless of any alterations, additions or changes of occupancythat may affect these existing buildings;3)Whether an existing building that undergoes a change of occupancy isrequired to be brought into compliance with the current energy code for the entirebuilding; and4)What the Energy Code compliance requirements are required for a rehabilitation project. Public commentswere accepted through November 8. Stakeholders meetings will be held in Reno on November 15 and December 3 and inLas Vegas November 22 and December 2. The intended effective date for the 2009IECC is  July 1, 2011 .After the passage of  SB 73 in 2009, REEEA is required by statute (NRS 701.220) to adopt the latest version of the IECC every third year as the minimum energy standardsfor construction.
